Sydney

Australia

City description

With its natural bay, legendary harbour, stunning Opera House and historic district known as The Rocks, Sydney is the most famous city in Australia. Located in New South Wales, it is the country’s most populated and also oldest metropolis.

Sydney is one of the loveliest cities in the world to live in. A delightful climate, omnipresent nature and idyllic beaches are just some of its assets. The harmonious balance between urbanism and nature, land and sea, modernity and heritage, mean that it is incredibly multifaceted.

Sydney is fascinating due to its multiculturalism, its friendly atmosphere and its open-minded way of life. The city boasts some 70 beaches, lined with fine sand or lush natural parkland. Some of the most iconic include Bondi Beach, Bronte, Coogee and Palm Beach. Whether you’re into surfing, diving, snorkelling or relaxing, there’s bound to be the perfect beach for you. The coastal walk that hugs the coastline from Bronte to Bondi is the perfect route for joggers, not to mention the Royal Botanical Gardens.

When it comes to culture, Sydney is one of the most exciting cities in the world thanks to the many events it hosts. These include the Sydney Festival, the biggest art and culture event in Australia. The Biennale of Sydney and the Big Day Out, a rock music festival, are just some of the examples of the city’s vibrant scene. The Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on Oxford Street and the Sydney Film Festival add to the cultural rainbow that the locals are so fond of. Another unique event is the New Year party. Sydney is one of the first cities in the world to proudly host one of the most spectacular firework displays you’ll ever see to welcome the New Year.

Aboriginal art and culture, contemporary art and the country’s flora and fauna are all showcased in the city’s many museums. Fancy an evening dedicated to the performing arts at the Sydney Opera House? A trip to the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Australian Museum, or the Powerhouse Museum? Some unexpected surprises at the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium or Taronga Zoo? It’s all within easy reach, whatever takes your fancy.

Sydney is a magical city where it’s easy to satisfy your senses and fulfil your soul. First thing in the morning, you can enjoy a typical breakfast, a popular meal with Sydneysiders. The local cappuccino, known as the Flat White, is the ultimate morning pick-me-up.
Australian food and wine are incredibly innovative, as well as drawing inspiration from Asian, Greek and Italian cuisine.

If you feel like a stroll or some shopping therapy, head to the chic, retro district of Surry Hills, the chic Paddington district  or to the markets at The Rocks. Last but not least, get back to nature in the nearby Royal Botanic Gardens to marvel at Australian wildlife and recharge your batteries. The Pullman Sydney Hyde Park has put together a selection of some of Sydney’s highlights to make sure you get the most out of the city.
